Big ol' rockslide in Glenwood Canyon, some of you may have heard about it, figured you'd like to see the pics.

That's what they get for being "green" and building the whole road as a bridge so snakes can crawl under it to the water or something and ten or twenty times the cost of a regular road on fill. Now instead of a few potholes to fill they have a whole bridge deck to replace, again at enormous cost to the taxpayers. Didn't anybody look up that hill and see that there was a lot of rock up there.  Shocked

Its not the first time it's happened. That canyon is ridiculously narrow though, and the rock is (obviously) notoriously unstable. When the Rio Grande blasted through the canyon they actually made the situation worse in certain areas. Blasting a shelf for a four lane highway would have been more problematic that using the techniques they did. According to CDOT, this rock slide was caused by the rapidly warming weather we've been getting these past few weeks. I guess up there it was getting up to 50 degrees during the day then plummeting to well below freezing at night, freezing the snowmelt. After a couple weeks of that, it was enough to force rock that hadn't moved in millions of years off the canyon walls.
