Electric Car Hype

There has been lots and lots of electric car publicity over the past year, but the sobering reality is that there is not enough stuff around with which to make the batteries that are required and it is located in places which may not always be friendly to US interests. If you are interested there is a good technical discussion here,
http://tyler.blogware.com/lithium_shortage.pdf
, titled The Trouble with Lithium
Implications of Future PHEV Production for Lithium Demand.
It is interesting reading.

Interesting enough, but we don't need electric cars. at all. a 2bbl carb tuned right can get 40mpg no problem. I'm a mechanic, I see the hybrids come in and out, and they are absolute JUNK. they're a rip-off. Can't get parts, they don't last, and unreliable. My pickup truck has a 318 a with a 2bbl and I drive 30 miles every day. I can go about a week and a half on 28 gallons of gas.

I don't know, the Prius is pretty good Campbell. I mean, it is no Dodge Charger,(1968 variety that is) but they aren't that bad.
But I agree about the electric car fad. Unless you are running off of some sort of catenary system similar to bumper cars, it just won't work.

Why, that might be just dillon-esque enough to work!

But then people would complain that the catenary is an eyesore or you would be sued because having live unprotected wires is dangerous.

Don't ask me why, but when I read the last post, all that popped into my head was, "But you can roller skate on it."

Except for the unintended acceleration and the brakes that can take up to one second to apply.

That is part of the fun. Plus, how else are they going to compete with the muscle car class for worse stopping ability. (Sorry Campbell, it is true about muscle cars that they can't stop, and they can't turn worth shit.)

But when you got over 650 horses tearing off from a 4 speed to the back tires standing that bitch up, then its even better.
