Hudson River Route
«

As some of you may already know, I've begun work on a route along the Hudson River. This is my first route, so I will appreciate any constructive criticism and suggestions. (After that, keep your mouths shut...just kidding
) The area I'm working on at the moment is very heavily wooded. I've been experimenting with forest splines to achieve the wooded hills effect with the hopes of conserving framerates. Here's a shot that I have not posted on the other forum...

That looks freaking awesome! I really am looking forward to this route. We need more proto routes that are made with DEM's for TRS.
three thumbs up!

very route nice Zorronov, loved the weathered units too
i have heard somewhere that splines can cause more of a hit when placed on hilly terrain because it takes more proccessing effort to calculate how it lays on the land. idk most likely i dont know what im talking about
whatever works for you

i would like to do all the way from Albany NY to Buffalo NY hitting Dewitt Yard in East Syracuse, Selkirk Yard in well Selkirk and all those other spots until Buffalo NY. then go all the way to Lyons NY and up to Montreal Canada.
8)
but after contact fishlipsatwork he said he retired from Trainz gave him some updates of whats going on at the Trainz Community and the disaster we are having at he forum and that ended it.
it would be impossible to do it via one baseboard at a time. so i really need a HOG route for it.
so I'm stuck until then......
well what am i going to do. I'm not doing it one baseboard at a time thats would be insane!!!!
now gettin out of my mega idea where did you get those Tree splines any Zorronovo?
look great will get when comes out!!
well i must say back into my hideout in the snow!
by the way anyone know what teletype is just found it.
where you get the Track too?
god i got to stop asking so many questions!!!

Thanks mates. OK titaniclover...the splines are the Eastern Forest splines by dmdrake (on the DLS) and the track is from HotTrainz (some of our Trainzer friends in Hungary). It's called Track Wood ddark grey ballast. You can find it here:
http://www.trainz.hu/modules/xfsection/article.php?articleid=43
The site is in Hungarian so first click on the British flag to switch to English. (I'm assuming you don't speak Hungarian...if you do...just ignore that last part.
) Register, log on, and go to the downloads section. You'll find it there. All their track is great so I just got it all.
Cheers,
Fred

I thought this route had a lot of potential when I saw it over at the other forum. Nice to see it here. Keep us updated and I am open for Beta if and when you are ready.

Thanks isstaten...Marc. As I said, this spline thing is an experiment. If it drags the framerates down I'll switch to plan B. I'm going to texture the hills as if the splines weren't there so I will be able to delete the splines (if needed) without having to start completely over with texturing.
John...here are the kuids you asked for:
kuid2:33404:37204:2 and kuid2:33404:37205:2
You probably couldn't find them because it should have been Eastern_Forest not Eastern Forest...with the underline...sorry about that. There are more than just those two but that's a start.

Peekskill...bare boards...few objects...
FPS takes a hit here...but not too bad...this section is pretty much done.
The Hudson is wide...

Great route! Those Hungarian tracks really do make it look realistic, I use it a lot. Even without textures, those other boards look
REALLY good.
That's a beautiful sky there aswell, I'm not sure if I've seen it before.

Alas, the sky is payware from Trainzland, so I'll have to replace it with a freeware sky before release. It's called "Tide Blue October". I'll try to find something as close as possible, but that will probably take some doing.

I like progress shots. It's amazing to look back once you finish something and see the work you did.
