Post by: socalwb909 on March 12, 2011, 08:34:18 AM
-I couldn't find a thread for this, so feel free to post your gmax, blender, 3ds max, etc. screenshots! (if there is a thread like this I'll get it removed)

-I'll start off with this, another wellcar.... AP53 wellcar to be exact from the Greenbrier companies:

Not that it really matters but yes it is.  What is their I could have done in gmax if I still used it just as easily but the mapping would have been some what more challenging.

Bill,

Question, is that a new build, or a rebuild of the old DDA40X?

Whichever it is, it is awesome.

Hey Joe who exactly uses those 2 unit spine cars and what do the containers that are loaded on them carry?  The only place that I have seen those are at a spur that goes to the Southern California Edison nuclear power plant in San Onofre, California.

Nice screenies everyone!

Also, seem I see Joe doing build spine-cars project and, so like be imagine when they doing work with your project on spine-cars plus possible they could addition loads of container like trash as 64J/65J trains.

Sorry I able can't to find any trash containers load on spine-cars on RRPA.net on pictures

I see these coltainer cars come loaded out of the plant in Alexandria, VA with flyyash, pretty sure they fit these cars, just another idea down the road:

The Most popular type Joe is usually the ones that CR6641 had posted with a dark blue color with trash stains on the side. Sometimes there mixed in with the E.P.I.C trash containers.

heres a good reference video with the containers on 65J http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94aqbHMh1Dc

looking good Joe! I'm liking the well cars and the flats. And the reporting marks for the trash cars is GIMX (General American Marks Company), and as for ARN on the trash cars use a large range of numbers for the spine cars ----> 516117 - 525218. For the flat cars use ------> 629503 - 689231.

Yea, I thought if I posted it in the thread, someone would have thought I was kidding....

I am making mods to an existing mesh, I am hoping to get a C430, C628, C630, C636, and M636 out of it. I think I can squeeze a C424 and C425 out of them with some more work. I can prolly use the cab and a few other pieces for a C420 or a RS11.

I profusely thank the orignal Author, he knows who he is! (And to protect him from getting a million PMs and emails from a bunch of other people asking for it.)

EDIT: I will prolly also make a reskin kit with the models I build and publish, so a River Run Alco is a distinct possibility.

On a more serious note, I have in the works:

C424, C425, C430, C628, C630, C636, M630, M636, and anything else I can manage to squeeze out of it....

Reskinnable units are planned......just need time to work on them....

Here's some screen shots of Joe's cars on my NVR route. I must say that I'm very impressed with the cars and his brake rigging is out of this world. Once again if these payware, they would be well worth the price.

A solid trash train being led by a pair of CSX SD70ACe's pulling into track 3 at the south end of Torrington.

Even though I like this shot, it does not do these cars any justice.

While this shot may look like the same one, our train is little further down the track.

These cars look just as good empty
(http://i1005.photobucket.com/albums/af175/saxrt1/Joes%20Creations/amrail2000_20110413_0003.jpg?t=1302690770)

check this brake rigging. I'd pull my hair out if tried this.

setting some cars off with our train in the back ground.

over head the detail is just as good.

looking back towards Torrington

We're getting ready to set a couple of cars off  for Torrington.

That bit of work complete, our trains heads back to the mainline
(http://i1005.photobucket.com/albums/af175/saxrt1/Joes%20Creations/amrail2000_20110413_0011.jpg?t=1302691482)

our cut of cars from across the main line
(http://i1005.photobucket.com/albums/af175/saxrt1/Joes%20Creations/amrail2000_20110413_0013.jpg?t=1302691597)

any one got a weed eater ( for those of who don't know, that's a hand held lawn mower that uses fishing line for a blade)

at the loading dock ( crud I thought turned blasted switches off-That's what I get for thought when I should have been thinking)
Well it's my hope that you like shots as much as I like the cars.

I know some JR track is in it. I got my copy downloaded yesterday, and I'm moving over all of my assets now. There's no "compatibility mode," per say, but I'll see how my assets work and go from there. All of Joe's stuff will definitely be in my first 2012 route!

Can't render in gmax (well without external apps/plugins). Also there's a button at the bottom right to expand the active window rather than distort all windows.

My first attempt in Trainz, modeled in Pro-Engineer, textured in Blender. The textures are from Evans Design Model Builder.

Model Builder is a program to make cardboard and paper buildings for "solid" model trains. I bought the program when I had my On30 empire. That texture is from their free sample from the Model Builder webpage.

Now I have to improve the model with overhangs and a porch roof and floor.

Looking good.  All it takes is a little time and patience and you can learn about anything.  You are off to a great start as a model builder.

You may want to try fixing the texture across the top of the front wall.  It looks like you got a bit of all the texture on it.

Possibly SR 630?  The raised edges seem to low, though...

Nope, but you're on the right track! haha same frame though (which completely gives this away).

Trucks are only temporary until I make some Andrews Tender trucks.

Thanks everyone.

It is 48 feet long Mick.  With the reefer on the nose it's 50 feet.  Once I'm done with this one I'm going to take the reefer unit off for a dry van also.  I think it would fit nicely on your intermodal cars.

Another clay render...
The Ps is the only thing I have somewhat made so far that this style tender was used on. But its about two feet too long as its dimensioned for another locomotive, but that's the only real difference.

I was going to recommend going to www.railsimstuff.com, but the site is down. However, if you use the wayback machine, the OLS and KCS fonts have enough to get you what you need.

Joe,

I have a hard time believing that anything you have, or will create has, or will "Suck".  I just don't think that is possible.  To me, and countless other Trainz Fans, they're the best Spline cars ever, and have filled a gap in the community.  Thank you for all your hard work.

Take care,

Ryan :)

Almost ready to be uploaded to USLW. Just these lights as a pilot for my new mast arms. Yes the meshes for the lights/sign are old but whatever. The pole is brand new.

Joe all of your work is absolutely astounding!!! And since I know you specialize in rolling stock I was wondering if you have one of these in on the drawing board. It would go great with the CN Gevo at Jointedrail

The U.S. Xpress Enterprises trailers are a necessity for me, at least, but I could skin they on my own if I had to.

Thanks guys!

-In the future yes, they can be scenery objects. And also, these are not reskins. I should of clarified that. These are completely new models, built all over again. While trying to conserve on polys, I think these are much better than my old ones. Not to mention the standard cube model!!!!!!

Those look more like tanktainer or trash container chassis then regular container chassis.. I could definitely see a use for em there.

Check the pack of 53 ft containers we just did at JR...theres chassis only assets within those, 5 to be exact.  I redid BethIntermodal on my copy of the Reading Line with all of that stuff.....soooooooooo much better  O0

Not a bad start.  If your not doing it now I would do saves under different names such as at points such as just before and just after a difficult part or any time a significant amount of work has been done.  That way when you screw it up, (not if) and there is many of us that have, you can go back to the last save and start from their or merge the old part in to replace the screwed up piece.  Continue with the learning process.

very impressive detail work there.

something is still catching me about the tank though. im going to have to do some more research to find out what it is im seeing in the back of my mind. over all i love the underbody and the frame attaching to the tank. this was one of the problems with the design after many years of service, the 8230 gallon tank weighed 30 tons when full, and being a key part of the frame itself, started causing stress fractures in the middle where there is no truck support. you can see on the 6936 the vertical braces that address this issue.
Title: Re: Rendered Screenshots
Post by: s-driver on December 24, 2011, 02:19:03 AM
I think I see what it might be about the tank.  After studying my books and pics I've taken I think the sides of the tank were it's vertical should come down about 2/3s the distance I have it before the curve starts.  It's also looks like a compound curve from that point down to the bottom of the tank.  As for those braces the only ones that are consistent is the one that goes from the side of the deck to the side of the fuel tank but only on the second order of the DDA40X which is 6925 through 6946.  On 6900 through 6924 some had that brace added and some didn't from what I could tell.  There is also some braces that appear to have been added between the underside of the deck to the top of the tank by the fuel fillers but that modification don't appear to have been applied to all the units.  #6900 don't appear to have had any of those braces installed in any of the pics I've looked at.  It's like the fireman's side rear door for the number 2 engine.  Some units had a window in that door and some didn't but there was no rime or reason to which one got that.

yes the braces were added only after they realized the stress fractures on some units. i dont think any of them are exactly the same (makes its real easy to model doesn't it).

i have detailed information on the EMD fuel tank cross sections, but they are in my desk at the JR office :) it should cover these and other EMDs into the 1980s. i could copy them and email them to you, see if that clears it up.

Sounds like a steamer... That's when you just observe the general practice and make a close enough version to match it, like an average.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

Sounds like a steamer... That's when you just observe the general practice and make a close enough version to match it, like an average.

That's what I figured I'd do.  Once I'm done with this one I'll do modifications to make it look like the first order units since they had a different shape and arrangement to the side doors on the electrical compartments.  It's all the small inconsistent details I still need to figure out what to do with on each version I'm making.

Well yeah, I don't know how much more detail I can get after this rebuild. Plus if I can pull off some of the scripted stuff I have in mind for it, people's minds will be blown! But I have the fun of LOD's and custom cab and the like too. A lot more modeling ahead!
But at the rate I'm going who knows how long it will take to get there. I got two real ones to rebuild and college work taking a lot of my time.

I swear, if you don't I will hunt you down. The camouflaged face in the window will be mine...... LOL

I am seriously happy right now that those plans have spawned something so awesome.

EDIT: Finish it, then we can tack on some Tropicana cars on the back, then go on the NEC  (Philly to DC) and open her up............................. Not sure if she ever pulled the juice train, (1976 time frame) but we can make an exception.

Perhaps you could ask JR or USLW to borrow a set of sd40-2 (HTC) Trucks and take that booger for a spin.....

I think I can smell burning NEC ballast from here..... I wonder if she ever made it to Potomac Yard..... Hmmmm Possibilities......

EDIT: Also, by showing that you are succeeding, #1976 will be your next mountain to climb.....

I was planning on modelling some HTC trucks tommorow and just hook them on. Oh yes and for 1976, I can spot that the steps and the front plow are taller which shouldn't be too difficult to modify, but for those trucks on there, do you think you could find some more close up shots and PM them to me? They look pretty odd with that huge spring on the side of the frame, oh well. I have a lot more time on my hands since school is just finishing up, so this should be interesting....  :cartwheel:

I just recently looked at what was available to put on my almost ready container chassis and was surprised not to find any of good quality made already.

What would be awesome and of great help is to get the help of the JR and USLW teams for some skins once I finish modeling and baking.  I might do another non insulated tank version latter on.  Ether something like this:

I think it is ready for mapping, unless I decide to model the nuts and bolts. ;D

That is a nice station.  It should look great textured.

Take that locomotive deck, get some trucks and couplers on it, put some railings around it, a barbeque, picnic table and a jacuzzi.  Then we'll be set to hit the rails.

You forgot the drinks trolley Bill, if there isn't room, then, we'll just have to forego the picnic table........ :duck2:

Nice models chaps, I like the 20ft tank container, just the job.

Cheerz.  ex.

Thank you.

Making a bit of progress.  I have to make up a few warning signs for it and correct a few miner backing problems.  Plus a few other details and tweaks hear and there.

seems like the fourm is very dead now a days  :poke:

took my GP60 i've been working on for god know's how long off the backburner and finish it up. I'm probably 90% done with the model and 50% for textures at the moment...

Before (2013)

Also threw it into trainz quick as a test to see how it's all coming together...

How i wish to use this suspension in trainz.  Still some work to do on the tire/rims textures.

One or two more small details to add, mapping, and texturing.

Got the urge to model again about a month and a half before going on vacation.  Will have to see if I still have the motivation when I go back and have the car at my disposal again. Trucks are not made by me and are only place holders till in game.

p.s. It would be really nice to have the continuous motivation to just finish all my projects. :(
