Title: Refrigerated boxcar enginesounds...
Post by: Backyard on August 07, 2012, 12:32:49 AM
O0 Athearn has announced a new line of Ready to Roll 57' Mechanical Reefers (http://www.athearn.com/Search/Default.aspx?SearchTerm=athg+reefer&PageSize=72) with sound.

Here is a page with the details (http://www.athearn.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=ATHG63253).

The cars are offered in original built featuring a Detroit Diesel enginesound and as a "modernized version" with a Carrier Trans-Cold highway trailer style reefer unit...they advertise two enginesounds.

Here is an imbedded iTunes player (http://www.athearn.com/ProdInfo/Files/Reefer_Demo_0812.mp3) that includes the enginesound...I think it is a Carrier unit. I somehow downloaded the .mp3 because I had a Firefox browser...it has startup and shutdown sounds...

Well that's different.  I'll take nonsound please!

 O0 Thanks for the move...

I would never be able to afford one, even without sound...unless it was for Trainz!

Pretty neat but at $80 a piece I'll probably have to pass too.  I'd rather get an intermodal set or 2-3 pieces of rolling stock for that price.

Agreed. Going non-sound. Every time I see O717 (The CSX train I plan to model) the reefer cars are silent and empty since they are switched first.
