Corporate Double Talk

Many of you may not know this, because I don't generally talk about it, but I think the time has come. I have a PhD in Physics and another Bachelor's degree in English. Not bragging...just stating a fact. This is what I call corporate double talk:

They have utterly, totally and completely lost the plot.
TRAIZ is not, never has been, and never will be about content.
It is about routes.
Removing 2.4, 2.5 and 2.6 content breaks 95% of all routes.
Breaking 95% of all routes breaks Trainz.
Breaking Trainz breaks Auran (or Neverfail or whoever the hell they are this week)

lets all go buy a lifetime first class ticket, then we could have access to the DLS and other areas.
yep most likely auran will go down south if they remove peoples access the DLS uploader for people who have 2.4, 2.5, & 2.6.
unless we could get a group of guys to build a website and hold all of the DLS content?

Not a bad idea, but a bit of a problem will be hosting content that has the condition in it's licensing that says that it can only be hosted on the DLS. Another factor is content made by people who aren't in the community anymore. If content gets deleted, or just moved to another site, some of the content is going to get lost no matter what.

I agree with Fred that it is hard at times to penetrate the corporate-speak, especially when he talks about the COC (code of conduct) in reference to assets, but what I think or at least hope he is trying to say is that they are going to fix all the earlier content that was broken at the time it was submitted to the standard of the time, and if they need the creators help they will ask the creator to provide or fix a texture file, for example. If they can't fix it, or the creator won't fix it, or if the creator can't be found anymore, then they will delete it, but only then. Most properly made 2.4 assets will show up error free in 2010, but they need to be error free in the first place. So I don't think most of that content is going anywhere any time soon.
It is the requirement that all new content must be 09/10 in build number that really irks me. Why should I build content to a standard that I won't use because they screwed up every tree in the game with their alpha sorting crap. I have downloaded about every 3d tree that Jankvis has made, and there are only a very few that I would deem acceptable. Mcguirel's trees are terrible and totally unacceptable to anyone who wants a good looking route. The speedtrees are a joke. So why should I build to 3.2 at considerably more effort and a great deal more cost (assuming that a 3dsMax exporter is ever made available by Neverfail).
My attitude at the moment is screw them and the horse they rode in on. I will continue to build in 2.6 and do content in 2.4 and post it here and at TPR.

you guys cant get off it can you? they wont remove anything that doesnt deserve to get removed. the content will be fixed if needed and the build numbers probably be upgraded, but still its not going to get lost anywhere unless it goes unclaimed. this keeps getting repeated by at least Chris over there. but nothing will be removed any time soon. they just wont support old TRS versions. why is this so hard to understand?
i especially cant believe the attitude im hearing from some of you who i have usually respected and would stand behind, but not this, you almost sound as bad as the whiner crowds. george, i mean no offense to you, and i very much respect your talents, but you are wrong... and there are no good excuses.
dont like the native mode alpha sorting that was introduced to free up the system, fine dont use it, it isnt a requirement. the older trees still look... well ok. imo the flat trees look like garbage all the time unless you are looking at a still screenshot.
why bring up the max exporter issue again? like i said in the other thread, there is one for every version of max since max 4 (a LOT cheaper than the newest versions) and just because they dont have one set up for max 2010 yet you think its some kind of problem??? i just dont get that. there are plenty of options there in 8 releases of max that you can find for sale at auction.

The exporter issue was brought up because Fred had purchased 3dsmax2010 and then found out there was no exporter available. As far as removing content. I HOPE that they will do just as they have said they would and fix older content that they could, contact the owners of the content if they can't fix it and only then remove it. Given Auran's track record I have my doubts. For me it won't really matter much. I have most everything I want off the DLS of older stuff and use 2010 exclusively. In the future when they get new purchasers and they go looking for missing content to a route they downloaded I hope they will be able to find it. Oh yes, they can just substitute other items into the route to make it work error free but good tutorials are , as we all know, shall we say lacking.

well typically, if it is done at all, a game company will release plugins that are current with the game's development. just bc someone gets max 2010 or 2011 doesnt mean they are entitled to an exporter plugin. another thing that i find terribly silly in all of these posts.

I didn't say I was entitled to anything, Justin. In fact, if you look at my post on the subject of the exporter, I was laughing about it. I have the right to state my opinion about the Company without you playing thought police and bringing up the old ploy of accusing someone of being a whiner. I will say what I think is the truth whether you or anyone else likes it or not. Unlike you, there's no money in this for me.

As far as fixing / removal of content from the DLS, I think i will go into "wait and see mode". I figured I better start backing up what I have now just in case tho.

Justin what pisses me off is that all those 'fixed' 2.4 assets will still be available, but with 2.9 or whatever build numbers. TRS04 will NOT load them, so in effect they ARE 'removed'.
I got TS2010 a couple of days ago, and IMHO it is pure utter crap. The trees (both alpha and the new abominations) are trash. Splines in Compatibility Mode are trash. Telegraph lines are rendered like 2"cable and barbed wire fences look like post-and rail. The draw distance is some trick of the light, the beautiful wonderful long views possible in 06 and even 04 are gone - 2" telegraph lines all the way to the horizon. Native mode is useless because those trees simply will NEVER appear in one of my routes. I will chuck it totally or go RailWorks or whatever it is first.
I understand absolutely why content creators are so wrapped in TRS10 - you can do PHENOMINAL things in it. But what nobody seems to get is that route builders HATE it, you simply cannot get what you used to get out of it. Where the hell are you going to show off those beautiful models with no routes....

Double talk is right...
I am glad that I did not buy that so called lifetime ticket; which is now as good as a scam. If I did have one, I'd probably be banned for aggresively asking my money back.
Plus, as it looks, I am glad I did not waste 50 bucks on 2010.
Rather, I'll wait and see what the heck happens.

yea i will too, so dont get testy. i said someone, not Zorronov, so chill. what i really think of as a whiner are those who sound off so strongly about these things that they have 'heard' but have no experience to back them up. not naming names.
as for route building in 10, i just dont see the difference, but this is an area where i am not really able to speak as i am not an expert. all i know is that ive had more fun in 2010 route making than i have in other versions. i like high res textures, and more abilities in surveyor... stuff i couldnt do in preveious versions.
