Monticello Railway Museum's IC #6071...thoughts?
« on: June 04, 2010, 09:14:01 PM »
Hello All,

I know I have announced this on the other forum, but I'd like to here also.
The museum I volunteer at, Monticello Railway Museum, has aquired the first SD40, Illinois Central #6071.

I would like to take this time to get your thoughts on the engine and what you'd like to see it painted.
It will likely be GM&O, but I'd like to see what's popular among railfans.

Thanks,
Woody

Thanks for the input!

On the traction motors issue, CN removed them so it will cost around $100,000 to restore the unit to operable condition.
MRM does plan to return it to operation, it will be mostly used for hauling storage cars in and out of the museum, we have so many now, the GP11 just can't handle them. The last set was moved by the GP11 and the F7 together...which was quite a sight pushing cars up a 1.5 grade in notch eight.
The cosmetic restoration will be first, then the operations with it will resume later.
