the two big ones are Photoshop & Gimp. I personally use Fireworks, others have been known to use Paint Shop Pro, Paint.net, & another program I'm blanking on. Gimp & Paint.net are both free, PS, FWW & PSP are all paid.

Thanks I have Gimp and sort of know how to use it. Unsure of the total process but can figure it out.

I don't open the CDP file to paint it. The best whey to do it is make a clone of the unit you want to paint in CMP and open it up for Edit. find your file in the trainz folder (I'm not at home to tell you where it opens at) and paint. The file you need to paint might be called main.tga or map.tga or something like that. Once you open the file you will know you have the right one.

Afro Hello Red, 'been a while...

You need a picture editing program called IrfanView if you don't already have it.

IrfanView has many functions, editing, video, audio files, etc. However you will need a separate program of your choice to do the work you wish to do(IrfanView don't do layers).

In Content Manager, clone the item...it should appear alone in CM.

Select the file, use Ctrl+Shift+E(without the +) to open the file in Explorer.

Open the file "body" and search for the .tga file that has the item you wish to edit. It is usually main.tga, or map1.tga, etc.

Left click to open the file, then save the file to a folder on your desktop labeled "project...." Save the file as a .png or .bmp to that folder.

In your photo-editing program(Paint.net for example) go File/Open and browse for your folder, that is why you put it on the Desktop.

What you are trying to do is import the map file and add layers that will change it to add logos, weathering, etc.

There is a layer tut on the web that was featured on the WWW for MSTS. It is applicable to your endeavor, I don't have the link ready yet, I am sorry to report that, but your getting responses without help.

You will need to study the instructions provided with your pic-editor to understand layers, but you can do this...and that is as far as I got..... Blobbb

After editing, save the file in the folder you made on the desktop, then open the file, save as .tga.

Good Luck on your project!
