Running Windows 98
« on: October 24, 2011, 02:40:00 PM »
Well, sadly all things must come to an end. Two days ago, my computer died a horrible death of not recognizing its harddrive anymore. As such, I have lost everything, all my 3DS projects, all of my routes, and all of my reskins. (As well as all of my payware. Thankfully, this happened not a week after I ordered my new computer to be custom built by a very helpful team member.(Who will remain anonymous just because I don't think he would like to be swamped with requests.) Until that gets here though, I am banished to my brother's old Windows 98 running laptop that is missing its "b" key. I am hoping that I can recover my hard drive's information so I can get at least some of my shit, but things aren't looking good.

One of the tools that I bought for the computers in the house here was a docking station / adapter for IDE / Sata drives. It allows me to take a drive out of a machine and plug it into this docking station and use it like a USB thumbdrive.

Something like this:

Its been a life saver in situations similar to yours....

Hope that helps!

EDIT: When you use something like this, run the new computer as "Admin", that way you have access to all files on the drive in the docking station.

Sucks to hear man, I went through the same thing two months ago and the hard drive was totally toast, wasted atleast a 100 dollars on useless recovery programs, adapter cables and whatnot for nothing. I hope you have atleast some of your stuff backed up, I was lucky in that I only lost a couple days of photos, pretty much all my trainz work was gone except for uselessly old backups. Hope you can recover something.

Is there anyway to install your old Primary drive as a secondary drive in the new comp?
