CP to sell west end of its DM&E line to Genesee & Wyoming
« on: January 03, 2014, 04:01:28 PM »
On January 2nd,2014 GW and CP announced the sale of 660 miles of Former DM&E track. Genesee & Wyoming will acquire the west end of the former Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern main line from Canadian Pacific for about $210 million. The new railroad will be named the Rapid City, Pierre & Eastern Railroad and is expected to generate annual revenues of about $65 million. The west end includes about 660 miles of CP's current operations between Tracy, Minn., and Rapid City, S.D.; north of Rapid City to Colony, Wyo.; south of Rapid City to Dakota Jct., Neb.; and connecting branch lines, as well as trackage from Dakota Junction to Crawford, Neb., currently leased to the Nebraska Northwestern Railroad.

What part of CP do you think will be sold next?

Probably the IC&E trackage that run's to Kansas City.

Absolutely not.  If CP gobbles up the KCS that'll be a main artery.  That line isn't going anywhere.

Not the KCS portion...KCS and CP share Knoche yard,I'm pretty sure. Also I don't think KCS run's to Iowa??I honestly if CP takes the old IC&E trackage then KCS won't be affected...If wrong please correct me.
I'm back.
